12th House Series: Artist Statement
24 artworks – 3” x 3” – Acrylics on canvas – Year 2020
The 12th House Series emerges from intuition, residue, and quiet attention. These small-scale works were created using leftover acrylic paint from earlier paintings, applied with a single thin brush on 3" × 3" canvases. Working with what remained—rather than beginning with abundance—became central to the process. The limitation of material and scale invited slowness, focus, and a deeper listening to what wanted to surface.

In astrology, the 12th House is associated with the unseen: mysticism, dreams, solitude, endings, and the spaces between conscious thought. These paintings inhabit that territory. Figures and landscapes appear partially formed, suspended between presence and disappearance, as if surfacing from memory or drifting back into it. The muted palette and restrained gestures echo the psychological and spiritual depth of the 12th house—where meaning is felt more than explained.
Painted without preparatory sketches, each work unfolded intuitively, guided by texture, negative space, and the quiet dialogue between light and shadow. Together, the series reflects themes of introspection, longing, union, and inner passage. These are not narratives with clear beginnings or resolutions, but fragments—moments glimpsed in transition—inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and enter their own inner landscape.
